Why did we name it Alamo River?
Local legend has it that in February of 1836 when General Santa Ana, President of Mexico was marching to San Antonio, the weather had been very wet and rainy Arriving at the Medina River, the high water prevented him and his army from crossing to the other side. He was forced to camp under the large Oak tree on the ranch for four days until the river level subsided to allow him to cross. This Oak tree has been named The Santa Ana Oak and is estimated to be over 600 years old. It has a diameter of over 12 feet at its base and is considered one of the oldest Live Oak trees in America.
